CNA Defined
CNA (Center for Naval Analysis) is an independent, third party, working under a cooperative agreement managed by
COPS.
CNA has a proven track record of improving law enforcement agencies across the country by conducting analysis on high-profile and high-risk incidents. CNA is looking at five areas within LVMPD: LVMPD Policy, Procedure, Training, Tactics and community engagement/ involvement. They will conduct in-depth analysis of these areas in order to ascertain the underlying issues with respect to LVMPD officer involved shootings.
CNA is currently collecting data as well as conducting interviews and on-site visits with both members of LVMPD as well as community members and groups. CNA will use everything they have collected in order to make recommendations for improvements to LVMPD. CNA will produce a final report on our analytic results. It will include the data analysis, policy and practice review, and recommendations for future improvements. The report will cover the following broad topic areas: analysis of shootings “by the numbers;” policy and practice review; and the way forward. The expected due date of these recommendations is mid August of 2012.
