James Richard Rogan

James Richard Rogan
February 22, 1978

Officer James Richard Rogan joined the Clark County Sheriff's Office in 1970 and served on the Department for approximately eight years until his tragic death.

On February 22, 1978, while working as a Traffic motorcycle officer, he made a routine stop in the 2000 block of Paradise Road.

During the traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle shot the unsuspecting officer and then proceeded to stand over Officer Rogan and empty an automatic handgun into him. The suspect was killed by police the following morning after an all night, house-to-house, search.

Officer Rogan died at 41 years of age, leaving a widow and six children ranging in ages from two years to eighteen years.
