Graffiti

Graffiti Facts:

• Graffiti is the most costly property crime in Southern Nevada. Each year more than 30 million dollars in public and private funds are spent fighting graffiti in our community.
• Graffiti vandalism dramatically reduces property values and rapidly accelerates neighborhood decay.
• Graffiti vandals have no desire to express themselves artistically. Their goal is to gain recognition through the destruction of property.

Graffiti Investigations in the LVMPD:

• The LVMPD maintains fulltime graffiti investigations detectives who have special skills and experience in identifying and arresting graffiti vandals.
• The LVMPD Graffiti Investigations Section is the oldest continually running graffiti investigations detail in the Western United States. It began operation in 1993.
• More than 750 graffiti vandalism arrests were made by LVMPD officers in 2011.

What you can do to Fight Graffiti:

• If you see a graffiti vandal in the act f placing graffiti call 911. Do not approach the vandal. Wait for officers to arrive and be a good witness.
• To have a police report made go to your closest LVMPD Area Command.
• Report graffiti in your neighborhood and request removal by calling the Southern Nevada Graffiti Hotline at 455-4509. The request will be forwarded to the appropriate agency for removal.
• Citizens are encouraged to remove neighborhood graffiti. You may be eligible to receive free paint and materials to maintain your neighborhood and keep it graffiti free. For more information contact the Southern Nevada Graffiti Hotline at 455-4509.
• To report a known graffiti vandal call Crime Stoppers of Nevada at 385-5555. You can remain anonymous.

The LVMPD provides anti-graffiti training to our local DARE students. The LVMPD is the first police department in America to provide DARE students with this instruction. Students receiving the training also participate in an anti-graffiti art contest. The winners have their artwork placed on Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada public buses.
