Starting Salary: $49,171 annually (as of 04/02/09)
- Upon completion of Academy: $51,168 annually (Police Officer I or Corrections Officer I)
- At 6 months: 4% merit increase
- At 12 months: 4% merit increase
- Re-classed to a Police Officer II or Corrections Officer II at 18 months: 2% merit increase
The LVMPD offers excellent benefits in addition to the annual salary stated above:
- 3 weeks annual vacation; 104 hours of annual sick leave; 12 paid holidays per year
- 3 bonus days per year if less than 3 days of sick leave are used; two personal days per year
- 5 days of bereavement leave deducted from sick leave for immediate family
- Holiday compensation for working a holiday at straight time pay or additional annual leave
- 10 hour work shifts for Police Officers and 12 hour work shifts for Corrections Officers; overtime pay at a rate of 1 1/2 times the gross hourly rate or compensatory time
- Direct deposit of paychecks is available; deferred compensation plan is available
- Nevada has no state income tax and employees do not pay social security taxes
- Employees will have 1.45% of their salary deducted for Medicareand this amount is matched by LVMPD
- Health, vision, and dental insurance is available for employees and their dependents beginning at date of hire at competitive rates
- Longevity pay at the end of 10 consecutive years of employment beginning at 5% of base salary with an additional 1/2% each year until a maximum of 15%
- Police Employee Assistance Program is a counseling and referral service for employees and their families at no cost to employees
- Employees are covered under the State of Nevada Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) at no cost to them and are vested with 5 years in the retirement system
