FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Juvenile pedestrian substantially injured by vehicle in a hit-and-run collision.
On August 20, 2025, at approximately 4:22 PM, a substantial injury hit-and-run collision occurred at the intersection of Amigo Street and South Abbeyfield Rose Drive. Evidence at the collision scene, surveillance video, dash camera video, and witness statements indicated that a gray 2023 Honda Accord was traveling northbound on Amigo Street, approaching a stopped school bus with flashing red lights and stop signs at the intersection of Abbeyfield Rose Drive. A juvenile exited the school bus and began crossing Amigo Street from east to west. As the pedestrian was crossing Amigo Street, the driver of the Honda failed to stop for the stop signs on the school bus, and a collision occurred when the front of the Honda contacted the juvenile, projecting him onto the roadway. The driver of the Honda failed to stop at the collision scene and continued north on Amigo Street.
Arriving medical personnel transported the juvenile to UMC Trauma for substantial injuries.
The Honda was located abandoned. The driver of the Honda later returned to the collision scene and cooperated with the investigation. Impairment is not suspected in this collision. The driver was arrested for hit-and-run related charges.
