 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

***Update***

This case was reviewed at the state and federal level and it has been determined that under the established guidelines the death of a fetus or a baby born following a collision is not considered a separate individual from the mother and therefore will not be counted as a fatality. The number of reported fatal collisions will be adjusted accordingly.

***Original Press Release***

On September 6, 2025, at approximately 2:21 p.m., a multiple-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Blue Diamond Road and South Las Vegas Boulevard. Evidence at the scene, witness statements, and video footage of the collision indicated that a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee entered the intersection eastbound on Blue Diamond Road against a red traffic signal. A collision occurred when the Jeep struck a 2016 Subaru Forester, which was turning left from westbound Windmill Lane toward southbound Las Vegas Boulevard.

The impact redirected the Subaru to the southeast, where it collided with a 2022 Toyota Sienna that was stopped south of the intersection. The Jeep then struck a 2014 BMW X3, which was also turning left from westbound Windmill Lane toward southbound Las Vegas Boulevard.

Several occupants of the Subaru sustained substantial injuries and were transported to UMC Trauma by ambulance. One of the passengers, who was pregnant, required emergency surgery in an attempt to save her unborn child. The child was successfully delivered; however, despite all life-saving efforts, the child did not survive. A second juvenile passenger, along with the mother, sustained life-threatening injuries and remained in critical condition at UMC Trauma.

The driver of the BMW reported minor injuries but declined medical attention at the scene. Several occupants of the Toyota also reported minor injuries and declined medical treatment at the scene. A passenger in the Jeep sustained minor injuries and was transported to UMC Trauma by ambulance, where he was treated and released. The driver of the Jeep exhibited signs of impairment and was subsequently booked into the Clark County Detention Center for DUI-related offenses.

The child’s death marked the 112th traffic-related fatality in the LVMPD’s jurisdiction for the year 2025. This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Collision Investigation Section.
