Fatal hit-and-run collision results in the 1st traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction for the year 2026.
On January 1st, 2026, at approximately 1:03 a.m., a fatal hit-and-run vehicle versus pedestrian collision occurred on South Las Vegas Boulevard, south of East Russell Road. Evidence at the scene, witness statements, and surveillance video indicated that a pedestrian was walking north on Las Vegas Boulevard, in the farthest left travel lane (T1) of three total northbound travel lanes. A 2019 Cadillac XT5 SUV was traveling north on Las Vegas Boulevard in the farthest left travel lane (T1). The Cadillac struck the pedestrian with the front left, causing the pedestrian to be thrown onto the roadway. The Cadillac, driver, and passenger fled the scene without providing any identifying information.
Arriving Emergency Medical Services responded and transported the pedestrian to the University Medical Center's (UMC) Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries. Despite all life-saving measures, the pedestrian succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical personnel at UMC.
The Cadillac, its driver, and its passenger were later identified and located throughout the investigation. The driver showed no signs of impairment and cooperated with the investigation. The driver was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on applicable charges.
The pedestrian's death marks the 1st traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction for the year 2026. This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD’s Collision Investigation Section.
