FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On January 6, 2026, Deputy Sergeant Mark Ruesch, who is assigned to the Office of the Ex-Officio Constable for the Las Vegas Township, returned to the 6600 block of South Sandhill Road to complete the eviction process he had started the previous day.
Sergeant Ruesch attempted to contact the occupant of the apartment, later identified as 46-year-old Victor Vondrasek, but he was unsuccessful as were his attempts to open the front door. Sergeant Ruesch asked an employee of the apartment complex for assistance. The employee retrieved a ladder and climbed to the second-floor balcony. As the employee climbed onto the balcony, Vondrasek crashed through the sliding glass door onto the balcony armed with a machete and slashed the employee in the neck.
Sergeant Ruesch heard the screams coming from the balcony and climbed the ladder to the second floor. When he got to the top, Vondrasek attempted to stab him with the machete. Sergeant Ruesch quickly took action to address the threat and fired one round, striking the suspect. Vondrasek remained combative with Sergeant Ruesch until LVMPD Patrol Officers arrived and took him into custody.
Medical personnel were summoned and transported all three individuals to local hospitals. Sergeant Ruesch and Vondrasek both sustained non-life-threatening injuries while the apartment employee sustained critical injuries and remains hospitalized.
Vondrasek has been booked into the Clark County Detention Center for:
- Attempt Murder with a Deadly Weapon, Victim is a First Responder
