FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On February 3, 2026, at approximately 1:19 a.m., LVMPD Communications received a report of a male battering another individual and trying to take a juvenile from a residence in the 8400 block of South Maryland Parkway. As officers were enroute to the incident, they received additional information that the male involved had also discharged a firearm in the parking lot of the apartment complex.
Officers arrived and contacted a female who stated the male was now inside of an apartment with the juvenile and was armed with a firearm. As officers were assembling resources, the male exited the apartment with a firearm pointed at a small juvenile he was carrying in his arms. Officers started issuing verbal commands to the male to peacefully surrender. The male did not comply and continued to advance causing officers to discharge their firearms, striking the male. Simultaneously, while still pointing the gun at the juvenile the male discharged his firearm.
Officers approached the suspect and the juvenile to begin rendering medical aid and observed that both were suffering from gunshot wounds. Medical personnel responded and transported the juvenile to a local hospital where unfortunately he was later pronounced deceased. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.
This is the 3rd officer-involved shooting of 2026. Per LVMPD policy, the identity of the officer involved will be released after 48 hours.
