 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

***Vehicle versus vehicle traffic collision that caused critical injuries to one occupant and substantial injuries to two other occupants***

On February 21, 2026, at approximately 1:20 p.m., a critical injury traffic collision occurred on N. Nellis Boulevard and E. Carey Avenue. Evidence at the collision scene and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Body Worn Camera (BWC) video indicates that a Mercedes-Benz was traveling northbound on Nellis approaching Carey. A Honda Pilot was southbound on Nellis approaching the intersection with Carey. A collision occurred when the Honda Pilot initiated a south-to-east left turn on a permissive flashing yellow traffic signal. The Honda Pilot's front end collided with the Mercedes-Benz's left front. As a result of the collision, both vehicles were redirected north and came to a rest just north of the intersection.

Emergency Medical Services were immediately dispatched to the reported collision location. All occupants of both vehicles were transported to University Medical Center Trauma Center (UMC). Two juvenile passengers were admitted and remain under observation.

Both drivers remained on the scene prior to their medical transport. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz sustained serious injury and was transported to UMC, where he also remains under observation. Evidence on the scene shows that none of the juvenile occupants of the Mercedes-Benz were restrained at the time of the collision. As a result, the driver of the Mercedes-Benz was booked for Abuse Neglect charges into Clark County Detention Center in abstentia, pending his release from the hospital.

This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD's Collision Investigation Section.
