On Friday, April 3, 2026, at approximately 6:54 p.m., a life-threatening injury collision occurred between a stolen 2018 Hyundai Elantra and a 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe. Evidence at the scene and video indicated that the Elantra was traveling northbound on Durango Drive, passing through the intersection with West Cheyenne Avenue at a high rate of speed. The Elantra lost control, causing the driver’s side to collide with the rear of the stopping Santa Fe. The Elantra went off the road to the right, struck a wall and a bus stop, then re-entered the roadway and came to a stop. Prior to the collision, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Officers were actively trying to stop the stolen vehicle.
Emergency Medical Services were immediately requested to the collision scene. The juvenile driver of the Elantra was transported to the University Medical Center (UMC) Trauma Center with serious injuries. The Juvenile front seat passenger of the Elantra was transported to UMC with life-threatening injuries. The rear seat juvenile passenger of the Elantra was also transported to UMC with serious injuries. The driver of the Santa Fe was transported to UMC and later released following medical treatment.
This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Collision Investigation Section.
