***Vehicle versus pedestrian in a wheelchair traffic collision that resulted in the death of the pedestrian. This collision marks the 39th traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction for the year 2026.***

On April 12, 2026, at approximately 11:11 p.m., a vehicle versus pedestrian fatal traffic collision occurred on Fremont Street south of E. Oakey Boulevard. Evidence at the collision scene and a witness statement indicated a pedestrian in a wheelchair was crossing the northbound travel lanes on Boulder Highway south of E. Oakey Boulevard from east to west outside of a marked or unmarked crosswalk. A 2013 KIA Optima was traveling northbound on Boulder Highway south of E. Oakey Boulevard in the northbound travel lanes. The pedestrian entered the path of the KIA and a collision occurred when the left front of the vehicle struck the pedestrian and wheelchair. The pedestrian was projected in a northwestern direction coming to rest in the dirt center median. The driver of the KIA brought his vehicle to an immediate stop and call 9-1-1.

Arriving medical personnel determined the pedestrian was beyond medical intervention and was pronounced deceased at the collision scene. The driver of the KIA displayed signs of impairment and was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

This collision remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Collision Investigation Section.
