 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On May 23, 2026, at approximately 5:36 a.m., a vehicle versus vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of East Washington Avenue and North Bruce Street. Evidence at the collision scene, witness statements, and surveillance video indicated that a 1993 Nissan truck was traveling westbound on Washington Avenue, approaching a fresh yellow traffic signal light at Bruce Street in the only left-turn lane (L1). The Nissan entered the intersection on the yellow traffic signal and started to make the left/southbound turn onto Bruce Street. The driver failed to decrease speed and use due care and entered the intersection at a high rate of speed as the light turned red. The Ford's front end collided with the Nissan's right side, redirecting both vehicles to the west and ejecting the Nissan's driver.

Arriving medical personnel performed life-saving measures on the driver of the Nissan. Despite all life-saving measures, the driver succumbed to his injuries, and he was pronounced deceased at the collision scene via telemetry.

The driver of the Ford was transported to the UMC Trauma Center by medical personnel, where she was later admitted for life-threatening injuries.
