On July 31, 2026, at approximately 9:10 AM, a fatal vehicle collision occurred on South Highland Drive, south of Edna Avenue. Evidence at the collision scene, witness statements, and video surveillance indicate that a 2026 Nissan Altima traveled northbound on Highland Drive, south of Edna Avenue. A 2016 Volvo tractor and trailer were lawfully parked against the curb in the northbound lanes. A collision occurred when the Nissan approached the rear of the Volvo and failed to decrease speed or move around it. The right front of the Nissan struck the left rear of the trailer. The collision moved the Volvo forward, where it came to rest and redirected the Nissan to the northwest, where it came to rest in the southbound travel lanes.

Emergency medical personnel determined the rear passenger of the Nissan was beyond resuscitation and ceased life-saving efforts. The Nissan's driver and front passenger were transported to University Medical Center with minor injuries. The Volvo had an occupant in the sleeping portion of the cab who was uninjured. The Nissan's driver remained at the collision scene and was determined to be impaired. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center for crimes related to the collision.

The rear passenger's death marks the 69th traffic-related collision in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction for 2026, and the collision remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Collision Investigation Section.
