 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On August 4, 2026, at approximately 3:57 p.m., LVMPD Communications received a report of an individual waving a firearm in the air and acting erratic at a business in the 4500 block of East Tropicana Avenue. Officers arrived and located the armed individual near Mountain Vista Street and the Interstate 11 underpass.

As officers arrived, the suspect and at least one officer immediately exchanged gunfire during which an officer and the suspect were both struck.

Medical assistance was requested and responded to the scene. The injured officer was transported to UMC Hospital. Unfortunately, despite all lifesaving efforts, the officer was pronounced deceased.

The suspect was taken into custody, and medical personnel pronounced the suspect deceased at the scene.

This is the 9th officer-involved shooting of 2026. Per LVMPD policy, the identity of the officer involved will be released after 48 hours.
