Update – Victim Succumbs to Injuries

The woman transported to the hospital during the incident at the residence in the 4500 block of Pigeon Point Court has succumbed to her injuries. The Clark County Coroner identified her as 47-year-old Nichole Drummond and confirmed her cause of death was Sequelae of Thermal Injuries. Prior to the officer-involved shooting, Drummond was burned and shot by Jason Simmons. The Clark County Coroner has ruled Drummond’s death a homicide.

On August 10th, 2026, at approximately 12:29 a.m., LVMPD communications received an unknown trouble call from a residence in the 4500 hundred block of Pigeon Point Court. The female caller stated that a male, later identified as her boyfriend Jason Simmons, was armed with a blowtorch and was attempting to burn her.

Officers were immediately dispatched, and while enroute, the call was updated when the female advised that she had been shot and was hiding in a bathroom. Additional information continued to be relayed to officers that the caller’s teenage daughter was also inside the residence in a separate bedroom. During this time, the suspect attempted to light the house on fire using gasoline and a blowtorch.

Arriving officers formed an action team and made entry into the home. They observed several small fires throughout the house and smoke was filling the air. Officers located a female victim in a bedroom suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Still working to find the suspect, officers continued to clear the house and encountered a locked door to the master bedroom.

Officer Venegas-Hernandez attempted to kick the door, and the suspect fired several rounds through the door, striking her. The officers immediately moved away, as Officer Venegas-Hernandez returned fire. Officers exited the home and the incident was declared a barricade. Officer Venegas-Hernandez was transported to UMC Hospital where it was learned that one round fired by the suspect struck her ballistic vest but did not go all the way through. The impact caused an injury to her upper chest.

LVMPD SWAT and Crisis Negotiators were requested and responded to the scene. The original female caller was still on the phone and at one point advised the suspect had shot himself. She then exited the home and was transported to a local hospital with burn injuries and a gunshot wound, where she remains in critical condition.

LVMPD SWAT officers entered the residence and located the teenage female victim and removed her from the house so she could be treated by medical personnel. Despite life-saving efforts she was pronounced deceased. Simmons was found unresponsive and appeared to have a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

An examination of this incident is being conducted by the LVMPD Critical Incident Review Team. This review focuses on policy, tactics, and training as it relates to this use of force.
