FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On March 29, 2024, at approximately 1:08 p.m., LVMPD dispatch received a report of a suicidal male in the 1200 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard. Officers arrived in the area and made contact with the male. The officers learned the subject was armed with a knife and he refused to exit an apartment. During this time the male started a fire in the apartment and the incident was deemed a barricade. SWAT, crisis negotiators, and K9 units were requested.

Shortly after SWAT and K9 arrival, the male exited the apartment armed with a knife. He quickly closed the distance on officers who deployed less-lethal options including K9 Enzo. Enzo bit the subject, but the male was able to stab the dog multiple times. SWAT officers continued to use less-lethal options and took the male into custody.

Enzo was immediately rushed to a nearby veterinary hospital, before being transported by the LVMPD air unit to a veterinary trauma hospital. Enzo is currently in stable condition and is expected to live. He will remain in the intensive care unit over night to continue to receive treatment.

Medical was immediately requested for the male, who was suffering from self-inflicted stab wounds. He was transported to UMC Trauma where he is currently in critical but stable condition.

Enzo is a Belgian Malinois and almost three years old. He has been with LVMPD for approximately one year.
