 Assistant Sheriff Fred HaasFred Haas is an Assistant Sheriff with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department with over 23 years of law enforcement experience. As an Assistant Sheriff, he oversees the Detention Services Division, Professional Standards Division, Business Technology and Support Division, and the Internal Oversight and Constitutional Policing Bureau.


Prior to being promoted in December 2024, he served as the Deputy Chief of the Detention Services Division. He was responsible for the Clark County Detention Center, North Valley Complex, and Tucker Holding Facility.

Fred Haas was promoted to Captain in February 2020. He commanded the Internal Affairs Bureau, Summerlin Area Command, and Gang/Vice Bureau, which is responsible for providing ongoing support for efforts to stop human trafficking. 

During his time at the Southern Nevada Counter Terrorism Center as the Deputy Director, Fred led the operational component of the Counter Terrorism Section. He oversaw the Source Development Section and Threat Assessment Program. During the October 1 incident, Fred was assigned to coordinate and vet the tips/leads for the investigation. Fred held various assignments throughout his career as a Patrol Officer, including Intergovernmental Services, Public Information Officer, and Internal Affairs.

In addition to his policing experience, Fred serves as a co-chair of the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC), which prioritizes justice challenges and coordinates resources to address them in the most evidence-based, cost-effective, and equitable way possible to enhance public safety and trust. Fred holds a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration—Criminal Justice from Nevada State College.
