As technology evolves, so do the tactics used by criminals to exploit unsuspecting individuals. We are committed to keeping our community informed and empowered to recognize and avoid scams. There are a variety of scams affecting our community—including impersonation scams involving court warrants, jury duty, traffic tickets, and even fake calls and texts claiming to be from LVMPD, the Nevada DMV, or the Clark County Clerk’s Office. Other widespread schemes include the “grandparent scam,” fraudulent cryptocurrency investments, online romance scams, tech support hoaxes, and mortgage wire fraud. Cyber-based threats such as ransomware and sextortion are also increasingly common and damaging. Below is a breakdown of common scams reported in our area, along with tips on how to protect yourself and where to report suspicious activity.
