They Are Not Forgotten

In January 2022, LVMPD established a dedicated Cold Case squad comprising a sergeant, three full-time commissioned homicide detectives, and five part-time cold case investigators. This specialized unit is committed to diligently pursuing unresolved homicide cases, aiming to provide resolution to the families of victims and apprehend the perpetrators of these crimes. Cold Case victims are never forgotten, the squad is determined to exhaustively investigate and resolve each case within its purview. 

A cold case by definition is any murder, missing person, or suspicious death that is not actively investigated by the original assigned investigators.

Cold case murders normally fall into three categories:

1. Unsolved: No known suspects.
2. Unresolved: Suspect(s) known/suspected but never successfully prosecuted.
3. Unidentified: Victim identity unknown (Jane or John Doe).
