Why File a Police Report
Filing a police report starts a law enforcement investigation. It may help identify suspects, recover property, and document the incident.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) can only take reports for incidents that occur within our jurisdiction.
If your incident occurred within the City of Henderson, North Las Vegas, or Boulder City, contact the appropriate agency to file your report.
If you are reporting a traffic crash on a freeway, contact the Nevada State Police for assistance with freeway incidents (opens in a new tab).
Filing a false police report is a crime. Knowingly making a false report is a misdemeanor under Nevada Revised Statute 207.280 (opens in a new tab).
How to File a Police Report
You can file a police report for crimes that occurred within LVMPD's jurisdiction in several ways:
- File a report online
- File a report in person
- File a report by phone
- Request a courtesy report
Information Needed to File a Report
Gather this information before filing your report:
- Date, time, and location of the incident
- Your contact information
- Victim(s) name, contact information, and physical description
- Suspect(s) name, contact information, and physical description (if known)
- Witness(es) name and contact information
- Vehicle information (make, model, color, license plate, VIN)
- Description of what happened
- Description of injuries or damages
- Description of property lost or stolen (include value, serial numbers, or unique identifiers)
- Supporting documents (photos, receipts, videos)
- Any additional relevant information related to the incident
There is no fee to file a report. You will receive an LVMPD event number for reference.
How to File a Report Online
Some crimes without suspect information can be reported online. The online reporting system allows you to submit a report and print a copy for your records. If you have suspect information, file your report in person at your nearest police station.
Follow the instructions in the online system to complete your report.

How to File a Telephonic Report
Some crimes without suspect information can be reported by phone.
- Call the LVMPD non-emergency number: (702) 828-3111
- Provide details about the incident
- Answer follow-up questions from the call taker
- If criteria are met, an event number will be issued
- A Records and Fingerprint Bureau employee will contact you if needed
- Calls are returned in the order received
How to File a Report if You Do Not Live in Clark County
Courtesy Reports
If a crime occurred while you were visiting Las Vegas and you have returned home, you may be able to file a report online.
If the incident does not qualify, contact your local law enforcement agency and request a courtesy report be sent to LVMPD.
If a courtesy report is not available, submit a signed, handwritten statement with all incident details.
Once received, the report or statement will be assigned an event number and entered into LVMPD records. You may be contacted for additional information.
Traffic Crash Report
If you were involved in a traffic crash in Nevada that was not investigated at the scene, complete an SR-1 Report of Traffic Crash within 10 days (opens in a new tab).
Internet Financial Crime
If you are the victim of an internet-based financial crime, file a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) (opens in a new tab).
