Traffic Bureau
Captain Jarvis Dudley, Bureau Commander
The LVMPD Traffic Bureau serves the entire Las Vegas metropolitan area, covering nearly 7,560 square miles. This includes approximately 2 million residents and tens of millions of annual visitors.
The bureau focuses on traffic enforcement, education, and both general and technical accident investigations. These efforts are aimed at reducing crashes and improving overall roadway safety.
The Traffic Bureau has an authorized staffing level of 143 commissioned and civilian employees. The bureau includes more than 120 officers, many of whom are certified motorcycle officers. Every Police Motorcycle Officer/Supervisor must complete a rigorous 120-hour motorcycle academy and maintain certification every six months.
In a busy urban environment, motorcycles allow officers to move more efficiently through traffic. Law enforcement agencies have used motorcycles for more than a century, and they remain an important part of Traffic Bureau operations.
Motor vehicle crashes result in more deaths, injuries, and economic loss than any other type of violation or crime. Traffic enforcement is focused on improving voluntary compliance with traffic laws and regulations.
The LVMPD Traffic Bureau continues to evaluate and implement new methods to improve traffic safety and reduce serious injury and fatal crashes. Through enforcement, education, and engineering, the bureau works to make roadways safer for everyone.
The Traffic Bureau encourages all members of the community to be Traffic Safety Advocates.
