Chief Mike Gennaro 2022Chief Mike Gennaro has been vital to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department
(LVMPD) for more than 25 years. His commitment to public safety, community engagement, and professional excellence has been a cornerstone of his career, providing the community with a profound sense of reassurance and security. He has had the honor of overseeing several key divisions within LVMPD, including the Professional Standards Division, Internal Affairs Bureau (IAB), Office of Human Resources (OHR), Organizational Development Bureau (ODB), and the Communications Bureau, ensuring that the community is actively involved in the department's operations.

In this new leadership role, he will be the Chief of Staff and oversee the Internal Affairs Bureau (IAB), the Office of Intergovernmental Services (OIGS), and Labor Relations.
Chief Gennaro’s extensive experience within LVMPD includes serving as a detective in the Criminal Intelligence Section (CIS) and conducting long-term undercover operations. After transferring to LVMPD’s Major Violators Section (MVS), he honed his investigative skills and contributed to the department's success in tackling high-profile cases. His leadership abilities were further recognized when he was promoted to Sergeant at the Convention Center Area Command (CCAC), a crucial role in overseeing operations in one of the city's busiest and most high-profile areas, instilling confidence in his leadership abilities.

As Lieutenant of the Force Investigation Team (FIT) and the Critical Incident Review Team (CIRT), he demonstrated exceptional expertise in managing and reviewing complex incidents, ensuring LVMPD's response met the highest standards of professionalism and accountability.
After his promotion to the captain rank, Chief Gennaro’s commitment to maintaining the department's integrity was further highlighted when he transferred to IAB, where he was responsible for overseeing investigations into officer misconduct and upholding the department's commitment to transparency and ethical standards.

When appointed to Deputy Chief, he was assigned to LVMPD’s Professional Standards Division (PSD), overseeing ODB, which houses the police academy and the Joint Emergency Training Institute (JETI), Communications, Office of Human Resources and the department’s recruitment section.
Chief Gennaro will continue to lead with distinction and has also played a pivotal role in supporting multi-million-dollar projects designed to enhance LVMPD's capabilities and better serve the Las Vegas Valley. His strategic vision and foresight have been crucial in positioning LVMPD on the front lines of public safety, ensuring that the department is well-prepared to address emerging threats and challenges, and instilling confidence and reassurance in the community.
