Police Officer Charleston Hartfield

Officer Charleston Vernon Hartfield joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on January 18, 2006. He worked in the Patrol Division until 2015, when he transferred to the Project Management and Video Bureau. During his 11 years with LVMPD, Officer Hartfield helped develop a memorial wall honoring fallen officers at Southeast Area Command. He also authored his first book about his life as a police officer.

Officer Hartfield was a decorated U.S. Army combat veteran who served for 16 years. In 2003, he served with the 82nd Airborne Division in Iraq. At the time of his death, he was serving as a first sergeant with the Nevada Army National Guard’s 100th Quartermaster Company.

On October 1, 2017, Officer Hartfield was attending the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas with his wife when a gunman opened fire. Although off duty, Officer Hartfield took action to help rescue others. He was shot and died at the scene. He was 34 years old.
