Sergeant Paul DeWeert joined the Las Vegas Police Department in January 1948 and was known by his fellow officers as “Pappy.” A drunk ex-convict shot the unarmed 20-year police veteran at a dark North Las Vegas intersection. Sergeant DeWeert was 60.
