Overview
The Internal Affairs Bureau helps maintain the integrity of the department through an internal system designed to promote objectivity, fairness, and justice.
The bureau conducts impartial investigations and reviews of allegations of member misconduct and accusations against the department.
Responsibilities
The Internal Affairs Bureau is responsible for the following:
- Recording, registering, and monitoring investigations of complaints against members
- Supervising and monitoring investigations of alleged or suspected misconduct within the department
- Maintaining the confidentiality of internal affairs investigations and records and forwarding findings to the appropriate office
Early Identification and Intervention Program
The Internal Affairs Bureau uses a case management system that includes an Early Identification and Intervention Program.
This data-based performance management tool helps identify department employees who may be exhibiting performance-related concerns.
The program supports early intervention through corrective measures and helps promote accountability in performance and customer service.
