Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do I retrieve my property?
a. Verify your items are ready to be picked up by contacting the Evidence Vault at (702) 828-3473 or EvidenceVault@lvmpd.com.
b. Once you have confirmed your property is ready to be released, respond to the address listed above. Evidence Vault hours are from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday thru Friday, excluding holidays. The last check-in is 3:30 pm.
c. You must present a valid, government issued identification (state driver's license, state ID card, passport, or U.S. Armed Forces ID card).
2. Can a friend or relative pick up my property?
a. Your friend or relative must have Power of Attorney or a notarized letter from you authorizing them to pick up your items. They cannot pick up firearms and ammunition on your behalf.
b. Ensure the notarized letter includes the event number, your name, and the name of the person authorized to pick up your property.
3. How does an incarcerated person obtain their property?
a. The inmate can send a letter directly to the LVMPD Evidence Vault from jail/prison requesting the release of their property to a specific person.
4. Can I have my property shipped?
a. LVMPD will only ship property outside the Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas areas.
b. You will receive a notification from the Evidence Vault. Complete the Shipping Authorization Information box on the letter. Include a phone number, email address, and your shipping insurance preference.
c. Sign and notarize the letter in the space provided.
d. Send the signed and notarized document to 3201 Technology Ct., Las Vegas, NV 89101, fax it to (702) 828-1665, or email it to EvidenceVault@lvmpd.com.
e. You must contact the Evidence Vault to arrange and pay for shipping within 60 days, or your property will be disposed.
5. How do I ship my firearm?
a. Complete the shipping instructions in the section above.
b. Arrange with a police department or licensed firearm dealer to accept the firearm on your behalf. Federal Law prohibits us shipping to a private residence. The following documents are required:
i. A letter from a police department or firearm dealer on their letterhead stating they will accept the firearm. The letter must include your name, the LVMPD event number, what type of firearm(s) (make/model/type), and any special shipping instructions, such as a particular person or department to receive the firearm(s).
ii. A copy of the dealer's federal firearm license if you are coordinating shipment to a FIREARM DEALER. A copy of the license is not necessary if you are shipping to a police department.
iii. Send these documents to the LVMPD Evidence Vault:
c. Once proper documentation and payment is received, we will ship the firearm via UPS - Next Day Air, with a signature required, per UPS and LVMPD policies.
6. How do I pay for shipping
a. We will contact you with estimated shipping costs once we receive your completed forms.
b. The following payment methods are accepted:
- Visa, Mastercard, and Discover credit cards,
- Personal checks, money orders, or cashier's checks
- Make payable to LVMPD.
- Indicate your event number in the memo portion of the document.

c. We will email the receipt to you.
7. Does LVMPD auction unclaimed property?
a. Unclaimed property goes to public auction, is donated, or destroyed. The items sent for auction will appear on PropertyRoom.com. Firearms and ammunition are never auctioned
