End of Watch: May 17, 1943

Deputy Jack David London and his partner Deputy Lynn McKnight were stopped along Boulder Highway near the small community of Whitney. They were talking to a soldier who was hitchhiking to Boulder City. When the Deputies flagged a passing car to get a ride for the soldier, the suspect vehicle approached at a high rate of speed, striking both Deputies. Deputy McKnight was struck first and sustained an injury to his leg. Deputy London was also struck by the right fender and thrown on to his patrol car. He died at the scene. The driver and passenger were subsequently stopped and arrested for the deputy’s death. Deputy London was 46.
