Deputy Sheriff John T. Allen
End of Watch: Tuesday, September 18, 1928
Deputy Sheriff John T. Allen was commissioned by Clark County Sheriff Sam Gay in the summer of 1928. Deputy Allen lived in Logandale, Nevada and traveled to Las Vegas to report the theft of 14 horses by two individuals. Arrest warrants were issued and Allen was deputized to apprehend the suspects. Deputy Allen arrested one of the two suspects and brought the individual to Las Vegas for booking. The arrested suspect was released, and later traveled to Pahoon, Arizona where he encountered Deputy Allen on September 18, 1928. Deputy Allen was beaten and shot. He died at the scene. The suspect, who claimed that Deputy Allen fired at him first, was tried for his death and acquitted. Deputy Allen was 61.
