Assistant Sheriff Brett Zimmerman has over 29 years of law enforcement service. He currently oversees two division: Community Policing and Tourist Safety. Community Policing Division is responsible for the following area commands: Bolden, Enterprise, Northeast, Northwest, South Central, Southeast, Spring Valley, and the new area command, Summerlin. Tourist Safety is responsible for the Airport Bureau, Convention Center Area Command, Downtown Area Command, Support Operations Bureau and the Traffic Bureau.
Brett has held numerous assignments within the LVMPD. Upon being hired in 1990, Brett spent his first 15 years in Patrol, eventually promoting to Captain in 2005. Brett enjoyed working Patrol due to being able to interact with citizens on a regular basis and strived to develop community relationships. As a Captain, Brett gained extensive experience in Narcotics, Vice, Crimes Against Youth and Family, SWAT and K9.
In 2015, Brett was appointed as a Deputy Chief, serving as Division Commander of the Technology Support Division. In 2016, he became the Division Commander of the Investigative Services Division and later in 2016, the Community Policing Division. In 2018, Brett was selected as Assistant Sheriff of the Law Enforcement Investigations and Support Group. In 2019, Brett was assigned to his current role where he oversees all of Community Policing Division and Tourist Safety Division.
