Kevin has over 29 years of law enforcement experience. He began his career with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) as a police officer and promoted through the ranks. He was appointed undersheriff in November 2014. As second in command, he oversees daily police operations, investigations, support, and the Clark County Detention Center. LVMPD has approximately 5,800 employees and a combined annual budget of one billion dollars.

Kevin has strong leadership skills in intelligence led policing and homeland security. Kevin has a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. He is a graduate of the FBI's Leadership in Counter-Terrorism and National Executive Institute programs, and a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government Senior Executives in State and Local Government.

Kevin currently serves as president of the Leadership in Counter-Terrorism Alumni Association.  He is a member of the Hope for Prisoners Board of Directors; one of the single most effective re-entry programs in our country.  November 2019, Kevin was appointed a member of the State of Nevada's Juvenile Justice Oversight Commission by the governor.
