Theft Crimes Bureau
What is the Theft Crimes Bureau?
The Theft Crimes bureau is responsible for investigating felony-related theft crimes and issuing CCW permits. The bureau includes the Commercial Robbery unit, the VIPER Auto Theft Task Force, the Financial Crimes unit, Organized Retail Crime (ORC), the CCW & Gun Dispositions unit, and LVMPD Crimestoppers liaison unit.
What Does Each Unit Do?
Commercial Robbery Detail
This unit investigates bank robberies, commercial robberies, robbery series, business robberies where someone has been shot or seriously injured, takeover style robberies, casino robberies and kidnappings with an extortion crime element.
Financial Crimes Detail
Investigates fraud, embezzlement, credit card crimes, forgery, identity theft, and other financial crimes.
Organized Retail Crime Detail
This unit investigates the distribution of stolen property and any retail crimes committed with the intent of reselling stolen property. They work in conjunction with retail partners to identify crime trends. ORC is responsible for the identification and prosecution of repeat theft offenders.
VIPER Detail
A multi-jurisdictional task force responsible for the proactive investigation of auto theft for profit cases and the oversight of the bait car/motorcycle program.
CCW/Gun Dispositions Detail
Responsible for the investigation and issuance of CCW permits, renewals, and Law Enforcement Officers' Safety Act (HR 218).
Crime Stoppers Detail
Works with Crime Stoppers of Southern Nevada, Inc. by receiving tips and distributing them to the respective bureau, section, or detail for investigation.
